Share I see that the 2025 Area B Town Hall presentation has been shared here, however there is no information included about the firehall closure announcement date, no information about the reasons for closure, no details about the impact on the community. The 2 fire department information slides seem disingenuous in that they do not include any information about closing the firehall. At the very least, the media release that was also circulated could be attached so the public can view the information. on Facebook Share I see that the 2025 Area B Town Hall presentation has been shared here, however there is no information included about the firehall closure announcement date, no information about the reasons for closure, no details about the impact on the community. GenelleResident asked 26 days agoThe RDKB is aware of a community-led initiative to request that the fire hall closure be postponed. Additionally, community-led efforts are underway to recruit more firefighters. While a decision has not been made to reconsider the Genelle Fire Station closure, Chief Derby will be discussing the community response to the closure announcement with the RDKB’s East End Services Committee on March 18, 2025.

Why is Big White the only Town Hall not being conducted in person?
CarlaBerrie asked about 1 month agoGiven that that majority of property owners in Big White are non-resident, we are conducting the meeting to allow for greater participation.

Share At the Feb 26 Board meeting, there were almost 30 attendees online - waiting to speak at Public Time. The Chair of the meeting did not facilitate participation in Public Time - he allowed only 20 seconds before adjourning the meeting. He also did not provide any direction to the attendees on how to participate - ie: unmute, or enter a question in chat, or 'raise your hand'. Going forward, please ensure that the meeting Chairs make every effort to allow online attendees to participate in Public Time. on Facebook Share At the Feb 26 Board meeting, there were almost 30 attendees online - waiting to speak at Public Time. Share Christina Lake OCP was approved Spring 2024 and confirmed various Zoning, When and how was this different Zoning passed on to BC Assessment? The reason this is important is because Residential Zoned Lands (Generally Flat lands with generally Community Water and cost efficient Type 1 Sceptic) are taxed at same rate as Waterfront Residential (Steep Lands with costly Private water installs, water tests, expensive Package Treatment plant with third party annual monitoring cost - like an extra tax). The Christina Lake Water System Households are being subsidized by all Property Tax Payers. Lakers2021 asked about 1 month agoHello, the Area C OCP for Christina Lake was approved in Spring 2024; however, the Area C Zoning Bylaw has not yet been updated to reflect the OCP. The Area C Zoning Bylaw update is an active project for 2025. Additionally, while the Province may use zoning as a factor to determine the property class it is not a direct relationship with taxatoon. The Province typically determines the class based on the actual use of the property or the type of property.

Share In follow up to the reply about why the Christina Lake Town Hall meeting can not be streamed and opportunity given for remote audience participation in real time, I respectfully ask that RDKB reassess the current format for these meetings. This was asked of your organization last year as well and it seems that this request has not been considered. Organizations with far fewer resources and capacity than RDKB have been able to figure out how to stream public meetings and allow for greater participation. If this reformatting can not occur this year, then here are a few questions that we would like to be addressed as part of the public meeting. 1. What is the update from RDKB about the milfoil issue at the south end of the Lake? We understand that there has been some research and consideration being given to the use of aquatic herbicides in targeted large or dense areas of milfoil that are not currently being kept under control via the dive team and/or benthic mats? We understand that there are provincial and federal responsibilities but what is RDKB's responsibility for this worsening issue? 2. What role will RDKB play this year in efforts to prevent zebra quagga mussel infestation at C. Lake? Again, we know that there are responsibilities from all levels of government but what will RDKB specifically be doing in regard to this issue? We hope that these questions can be addressed as part of the taped presentation that you have indicated will be available for viewing. Thank you for your consideration. on Facebook Share In follow up to the reply about why the Christina Lake Town Hall meeting can not be streamed and opportunity given for remote audience participation in real time, I respectfully ask that RDKB reassess the current format for these meetings. SeasonalResCLake asked about 1 month agoHello, the RDKB has looked into the idea of hosting a hybrid meeting but again, the format of the meeting does not lend itself to this format. After the approximately 10 minute overview from the CAO and the CFO, attendees have an opportunity to visit the nine tables (booths) set up in the hall. They can ask questions directly of service managers. There will be dozens of conservations occurring at the same time and we cannot record them. the recording would not be audible. The budget presentation will be shared on this page the next day and we highly encourage residents to reach out to this page and/or their area director with questions. I will try to record the presentation with my iPhone as we do not have a video camera. The PowerPoint presentation will be made available on this site the day after the meeting (please note that staff will not be back from the meeting until late that evening).
You asked about invasive mussels. This is not the jurisdiction of the RDKB; however, we are very concerned about the issue. We have written letters to the Provincial government and met with officials at the last Union of BC Municipalities convention.
Our service manager will have more information to share with the public after the Town Hall on milfoil control. We will share that information here after the Town Hall.
Thank you for your questions!

Share Regarding the Electoral Area C/ Christina Lake meeting scheduled for March 3rd: how can seasonal taxpayers participate? A significant percentage of taxpayers/ constituents are not able to attend this in-person only meeting. I have been told in the past that RDKB would provide remote access and live-streaming participation during future Town Hall meetings. Why is this option not being presented at this time, especially for a meeting regarding a proposed budget and utilization of taxpayers money. kbigio asked about 1 month agoHello, given the format of the meeting, we are unable to provide a hybrid format. The session will start with a welcome from Director Grace McGregor, followed by high-level overview of services offered in Christina Lake/Area C. After that, our Chief Financial Officer will give an overview of the proposed five-year financial plan and its implications. After that, the group will disperse and be able to chat with staff at approximately 10 tables set up around the room to learn about about specific services and projects. There is no way to record this as scores of residents will be talking to managers at the different tables. The presentation will be shared on this site and residents are encouraged to send questions to us, which we will answer as soon as we are able.
