Boundary Region Flood & Geohazard Risk Assessment - Public

Welcome!

This website provides information about our current project to better understand and address flood and geohazard risk in the Boundary region. This is a first step to enable decision-makers to focus efforts on developing modern flood hazard maps for the region. Hazard maps are a foundational tool to develop mitigation strategies.

The project study area includes Electoral Areas C, D, and E of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary. It does not include the Village of Midway and the cities of Greenwood and Grand Forks, as those municipalities are part of separate flood mapping initiatives.

The overall goal for the project is to equip the RDKB with a better understanding of flood and geohazard risk in the Boundary area. The objectives are to:

1. Outline areas that are susceptible to flood and geohazards.
2. Identify assets that are valuable to the community and that are in the way of these hazards.
3. Engage with a range of community stakeholders and build community resilience.
4. Assess relative risk to support the development of detailed flood maps and emergency management plans.
