Update (June 2025)

Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey and took part in the targeted engagement of local groups.

What Next?

Quantum Recreation will compile and present a "What We Heard" report, summarizing the feedback received during the mail survey, public consultations, online surveys, and user group engagements. This report will reflect the needs versus the wants of recreation in the region.

They will then develop a comprehensive Needs Assessment Report to identify and prioritize the recreational needs of the community. This report will evaluate the demand for various programs, facilities, and services - understanding the community's preferences and unmet needs. This will form the basis for actionable recommendations that will guide the Recreation Master Plan toward inclusive, relevant, and sustainable recreation solutions.

Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Launches Recreation Master Plan for Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks and the City of Grand Forks

Community input sought through engagement events and household survey

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) is pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive Recreation Master Plan for Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks and the City of Grand Forks. The RDKB has partnered with Quantum Recreation, a specialized consulting firm, to develop this important initiative to enhance regional recreational opportunities and services.

The Recreation Master Plan will provide a strategic framework for future recreation development, programming, and facilities based on community priorities and needs.

"This master planning process gives us a valuable opportunity to hear directly from residents about their vision for recreation in our communities," said Paul Keys Manager of Facilities and Recreation, "The input we receive will help shape recreational services in Electoral Area D and Grand Forks for years to come."

Community Engagement Opportunities

Residents will have multiple opportunities to participate in the planning process:

  • Participant Sessions: Meetings with key community organizations and interest groups
  • Public Open Houses & Pop-up Events: Community events where residents can learn about the project and share feedback
  • Household Survey: A comprehensive survey being mailed to every household in Electoral Area D and Grand Forks

The household survey is a critical component of the planning process. Each household will receive a unique access code on a mailout to complete the survey online. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on current recreation offerings and future priorities. The survey will be open until April 18, 2025.

"Community input is essential to creating a Recreation Master Plan that truly reflects local needs and aspirations," said Jason Simituk, Project Lead at Quantum Recreation.
