Christina Lake Fire & Emergency Response Petition

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary invited Christina Lake boat-access-only property owners to submit a petition by 4 p.m. August 18, 2021 to determine if they are in favour of receiving fire and first responder services at an estimated cost of $75 per $100,000 of your assessed property value.

The petition has now closed, and results will be shared here once information has been reviewed by staff and the RDKB Board of Directors.

Currently, owners of boat access properties do not pay for and therefore do not receive fire or emergency response services, unless directed so by Emergency Management BC. By opting into the service, landowners would receive potentially life-saving first response. Additionally, should neighbouring properties be on fire, the fire department may have the chance to save your structure, your land and your life.

This petition was open to those property owners whose only access to their properties at Christina Lake is by boat.

Why a petition?

It is a cost-effective and straightforward method to determine if you are in favour of receiving and paying for fire and emergency response services. Currently, owners of boat-access-only properties do not pay for and do not receive these services.

What is required for the petition to succeed?

At least 50 per cent of boat-access-only property owners representing at least 50 per cent of the assessed value of land and improvements in the expanded service area needed to sign and return the petition by the 4 p.m. August 18, 2021 deadline for the petition to succeed.
